Beschreibung der Fachrichtung

Produkt- und Industriedesign bezeichnet die Gestaltung von Gegenständen des Alltags und der Arbeitswelt. Es umfasst aber auch virtuelle Welten, Prozesse und Managementaufgaben. Mehr dazu

Beschreibung des Angebots

Bachelor: Der Bachelor ist der erste Hochschulabschluss und verlangt 180 ECTS (Kreditpunkte).

During the first year students develop a basis for understanding design and its disciplines. The main topics include design history, art history, cultural studies, design disciplines (product, communication, and service), design process and methodology, visualisation techniques, sustainability and eco-design, market research and trend analysis, marketing and introductory project management. 

During the second year students deepen their understanding of design from a management and an organisational perspective. Main topics include product and service design; design methodology, marketing and marketing communication; organisational structures, processes and project management; design management theory and operational design management; as well as business management, accounting, law and intellectual property.

During the third and final year students apply and manage design in real-life settings. Here the main topics include strategic design management, brand management, design thinking, decision-making in the form of tools for innovation and creativity, entrepreneurship and leadership, intercultural communication and international management. Students conclude the programme with their Bachelor’s thesis. 

In parallel the programme also develops students’ personal skills with a focus on written and oral communication, presentation techniques, negotiation and selling, self-awareness and impact on others, and academic writing. 

Specialisation tracks

The two tracks aim to provide students with the skills they will need in order to effectively work in product or industrial design, marketing and sales, or in visual communication design.
While the first track focuses on products and services (solution creation), the second track is all about communicating solutions to the market and customers (market creation).

Voraussetzungen

Zulassung

Depending on the amount of applications, there will be a pre-selection of valuable candidates for the BA programme. Provided your application meets the entry requirements you will be included in the pre-selection, and at best be invited to an interview at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Art & Design.

  • Higher secondary education certificate qualifying the holder for studies at university level (Swiss students: Berufsmatura or Gymnasiale Matura) 
  • One year of work experience in a business or design field
  • Completion of a foundation course in art is recommended but not mandatory and can be compensated with work experience
  • All students must have English proficiency at the C1 Level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Submission of a portfolio of own work in art and design (in the form of photographs, slides, CD, etc.) and a written motivation essay and indication of the preferred track, together with a description of previous work experience
  • An interview either in person or per web-conference (as an exception) with presentation of the result of a task assignment

Zielpublikum

The programme is aimed at people who have a strong interest in design and business alike, and provide a genuine interest in bringing these two aspects together. Not necessarily they want to become practicing designers themselves, but rather support design, in making it more professional and effective within business, economy and society: their love for design and a talent for organizing and communicating makes them ideal candidates to manage the business side of design.
